Daltonganj: A minor, who was placed in the observation home for boys here after being accused of rape, was found hanging in the bathroom of the facility on Friday afternoon. The deceased, a resident of Ranka block in Garhwa district, had used a gamcha (coarse towel) to hang himself, the police said. Other inmates of the home saw him hanging and raised an alarm. He was declared brought dead by the doctors at the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).Jyoti Lal, the officer in-charge of Daltonganj police station, said, “He was facing rape charges and had sections of the POCSO act. On Aug 8, he was transferred from Garhwa district as there is no observation home there.” Palamu deputy commissioner Sameera S ordered a magistrate level inquiry in the incident. Palamu’s district legal services authority (DLSA) secretary Rakesh Ranjan said there are over 40 boys lodged in the home at present.
